Patient Bill of Rights
As a patient, you have the right to:
- Considerate and respectful care.
- Obtain from your physician complete and current information regarding your diagnosis, treatment and prognosis in terms that can be reasonably understood.
- Receive from your physician information necessary to give informed consent prior to the start of any procedure or treatment.
- Refuse treatment to the extent permitted by law and to be informed of the medical consequences of your actions.
- Every consideration of privacy regarding your own medical care.
- Expect all communications and records pertaining to your care be treated as confidential.
- Expect that within your physician's capacity, your physician must make a reasonable response to your request as a patient to be treated; the right to be treated.
- Obtain information regarding the relationship of your physician to other health care and educational institutions insofar as your care is concerned.
- Be advised if the physician proposes to do human experimentation affecting your care.
- Expect reasonable continuity of care.
- Examine and receive an explanation of your bill, regardless of the source of payment.
- Know what physician rules and regulations apply to your conduct as a patient.
